Work is now complete on the Hospital Bridge Fishing Pier!

By Tammy Laval

Specialist civil construction company Casa Engineering was awarded on-site contractors and began work underway on the highly anticipated Hospital Bridge Fishing Pier. Casa was awarded the $1.7 million dollar contract in July 2019 which also includes landscaping near the pier access.

A 15×11-meter L-shape design will be installed to replace the fishing pier that was damaged in Cyclone Debbie in 2017. The new design will better withstand the impact from debris and increase the structural integrity of the pier for future flood events.

Once complete, the pier will be wheelchair accessible and will include seating and rod holders for keen fishers.

The pier was expected to be completed in December of 2019, weather permitting, but as noted the serve summer weather held up progress on the works, with the project meeting completion at the end of March 2020.
