There is nothing like an Aussie Pie!
Some like it with peas, others covered it in sauce, some say it’s all about the filling … regardless of your preference, there is nothing like getting your chops around a hot pie before the flies turn up, or the sauce or insides start to drip down your arms.
So how great is it, that here in Mackay we get to celebrate not only the great Aussie icon, the pie, but the official title of – The Great Aussie Pie!
Yes you heard right, we have the best pies in all of Oz, in our own backyard thanks to the Pinnacle Pub.
The Pinnacle Hotel (newly revamped) located along the scenic Mackay-Eungella highway, was recognized on the national stage by taking out six awards for their famous pies.
Co-Owner Andrew Guthries advised the Daily Mercury, that the judges were extremely impressed, phoning them to cite “they were amazed at what we do”. Starting their pie processing at 5am every morning and hand-making at least 1500 pies a week to serve people every day. Their entry are these same pies that they deliver to the public, unlike some of the specialty made creations other bakers entered.

Silver: Gourmet Red Meat – Steak Potato
